Washington, DC: Congressman Bob Goodlatte announced today that the artwork of E.C. Glass High School student Margaret Harrington is being displayed in the United States Capitol.
Margaret Harrington, daughter of Mike and Elizabeth Harrington, lives in Lynchburg and just completed her junior year at E.C. Glass High School. She was chosen as the winner of the District-wide Art Competition sponsored by Congressman Goodlatte. The Congressional Art Competition, An Artistic Discovery, first began in 1982 and is open to all high school students. The winning entries are displayed in a corridor of the U.S. Capitol, in an area which has been designated for the artistic talents of today's youth.
"Collections of My Mother,"an oil on canvas, was selected by Congressman Goodlatte to represent Virginia's Sixth Congressional District in the national art exhibition at the U.S. Capitol.
"The Congressional Art Competition is a great opportunity for students from Southwest and Central Virginia to showcase their talent in a national forum," Goodlatte said. "We were all very impressed with Margaret's work and I was pleased to nominate her to represent the Sixth District of Virginia at the Congressional Art Competition."
