GOODLATTE & HURT STATEMENT ON SUCCESSFUL JOB FAIR
Lynchburg, VA: Today Congressmen Bob Goodlatte and Robert Hurt held a regional job fair at the Liberty Mountain Conference Center, in Lynchburg. Nearly 70 businesses, representing between 1,200-1,300 open positions, were on hand meeting with job seekers. Today’s job fair attracted over 1,350 job seekers. Congressmen Goodlatte and Hurt issued the following comments at the conclusion of the job fair:
Congressman Bob Goodlatte:
“I am firmly committed to finding real solutions to address our nation’s unemployment crisis, create new jobs, and get our economy moving in the right direction. Today’s job fair was a great opportunity to match local businesses that are in need of qualified workers with individuals in our community who are looking for work.
“I want to thank the over 70 businesses who were on hand today to meet job seekers. I am hopeful that we were able to match folks looking for a job here in our community with local businesses who are looking to hire. The fact that so many businesses were on hand today with job openings is a good sign for the local economy. I appreciate their willingness to participate and hope that it was beneficial to our local community.”
Congressman Robert Hurt:
“At a time when unemployment levels are unacceptably high, it is critical that we do all that we can to make it easier for local businesses to expand and create the jobs that 5th District Virginians need. I remain committed to working on behalf of all of those who were at the job fair today to reduce regulatory burdens and adopt pro-growth policies so our job seekers have greater opportunity to find work and so our local businesses are able to expand. I’d like to thank all of those who participated in today’s job fair and I look forward to continuing my work on behalf of Virginia’s 5th District as the House moves forward with its pro-growth plan to get Central and Southside Virginians back to work.”
This is the third job fair Congressman Goodlatte has hosted. He has previously held similar events in Roanoke and Harrisonburg.
